Notice of Public Meeting Regarding Development Charges
TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Township of Muskoka Lakes will hold a public meeting pursuant to section 12 of the Development Charges Act, 1997, regarding proposed development charge rates and policies that will be applied throughout the Township. This Public Meeting is an opportunity for the public to provide comments on the 2024 Development Charges Background Study and the draft Development Charges By-law.
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE THAT this public meeting will be held in a hybrid forum with both electronic participation via ZOOM and in-person participation available for those wishing to attend. The public may observe the proceedings by accessing the webcast (live or recorded) on the Township website.
Development charges are fees on new developments that fund growth-related costs to a municipality which are governed by the Development Charges Act, 1997. The Development Charges Background Study relates to the provision of eligible DC Services which includes Development-Related Studies, Library Services, Fire Protection Services, Parks and Recreation, and Services Related to a Highway.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 in the Council Chambers, Municipal Office, 1 Bailey Street, Port Carling, Ontario and will commence at 1:00 p.m.
IN ACCORDANCE WITH section 10(4) of the Development Charges Act, 1997, the 2024 Development Charges Background Study was made available on Engage Muskoka Lakes on Friday, April 12, 2024. A copy of the proposed development charges by-law will be made available on the Township’s website not later than May 1, 2024. It is proposed that enactment of a development charges by-law by Council will occur on a date after the public meeting.
ANY PERSON may make verbal representation by participating either in person or via the ZOOM meeting and/or make a written representation either in support of or in opposition to the proposed by-law. Written submissions are invited and should be directed to the undersigned email, by regular mail or the Municipal Office drop box outside the main entrance to the Municipal Office located at 1 Bailey St., Port Carling. All submissions will become part of the public record.
