Media Release - Winter Storm Operations Update #5 – December 3
MUSKOKA LAKES, ON – With a majority of power outages in the Torrance area, there will be a warming centre open at the Torrance community centre from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm today. If you, or someone you know, is in another area and in need of a warm space with power, please call the Township office.
The Muskoka Lakes Fire Department will be going door-to-door in areas that are still without power to do wellness checks today. If you know someone who may be without power, and in need of a wellness check, please call the Muskoka Lakes Fire Department at 705-765-3156.
All Township roads are open and clear however, snow clearing operations are still underway. Residents should anticipate road widening efforts over the next few days in preparation for additional snow in the forecast.
With more snow in the forecast, the Township is encouraging the community to replenish their 72-hour kit and be prepared for more winter weather.
Both the Bala and Port Carling arenas remain closed due to the snow load on each of the buildings. All arena programs and activities are cancelled until further notice.

We are encouraging residents to continue to exercise caution in the area:
- Stay off the roads and limit outings to essential travel only. If you need to travel, please drive according to the weather and road conditions, and take the necessary precautions to ensure for a safe journey;
- Limit your exposure to extreme cold temperatures and be sure to check on vulnerable members of the community;
- Clear snow away from blue 9-1-1 civic address signs to ensure emergency services can find your home in the event of an emergency;
- Ensure outside vents for all fuel-burning appliances are clear of snow and ice. Portable generators should only be used outdoors and carefully located to ensure exhaust fumes do not enter the home;
