Have Your Say: District Council Seeks Public Input as it Considers Changes to its Composition
Via District of Muskoka Media Release - Have Your Say: District Council Seeks Public Input as it Considers Changes to its Composition
The District Municipality of Muskoka is required by the Municipal Act to conduct a review of District Council's composition during this term of council, and then following every second regular election after that. This process includes review, for each of its lower-tier municipalities, the number of members of its council that represent the lower-tier municipality. Through this legislated review, regional municipalities have the option to increase or decrease the size of their composition, or choose to remain status quo.
A Municipal Modernization Committee (MMC) was struck by Council to review background information, to consider the implications of changes, and to make recommendations (if any) for changes to composition for Council consideration. A motion was passed at the most recent MMC meeting that recommends that Council be reduced in size. More information about District Council’s current structure and composition changes being considered is available by visiting our Municipal Modernization page.
